First Missions in Australia: May 2006

Fr. Ben J. Cameron, C.P.M.

Melbourne area

St. Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne. It is a most impressive church built from "blue stone"
by the late Archbishop Mannix, who was Archbishop of Melbourne for 50 years.

Incarnate Word / in whom all nature lives
Cast flame upon the earth / raise up contemplatives
Among us, me who walk within the fire
Of ceaseless prayer, impetuous desire.
Set pools of silence / in this thirsty land:

-- James McAuley (1917-1976), Australian poet

Some of the good people who participated in the Parish Mission at St. Francis of Assisi, Mill Park

During the mission at Mill Park, I went hiking several days in the "Quarry Hills" nearby with Fr. Brendan Lane, Parish Priest of Mill Park. During those hikes, we saw real live (wild) Kangaroos!
